Out of Africa
The Out of Africa Project is a beginner’s guide to the history of African peoples and it explores some of the real history of Africa.
The exhibition, booklet and DVD launched at Jalgos at the beginning of Black History Month 2011. David Knight shared some of the wealth of knowledge he has built up through many years of research.
For the past 500 years the world was told, and believed, that Africa made no contribution to world history and culture. Whilst no longer accepted as truth this idea still influences people’s perceptions of Africa and African people. The ‘Out of Africa’ theory of the origin of modern humans is now well established. This theory states that the entire population of modern humans originated in Africa.
What greater contribution could there be to human history?
