Preston and beyond
Over the last three years, we’ve been working alongside Global Link – a development education centre in Lancaster – and lots of local community groups to create radio programmes about international development. We’ve been really interested to find out how events and problems across the world can affect our communities here in Preston.
How are gangs in Preston connected with gangs in other countries, like South Africa or Brazil? What’s it like to be a refugee seeking asylum here in Lancashire? What’s it like to be living with HIV here in Preston, compared to someone living with HIV in Uganda? How does buying Fairtrade at the supermarket make a difference to cocoa farmers in Ghana? These are all questions that groups have asked over the course of the project, which is now coming towards an end.
Listen out on air for our Preston and Beyond series of programmes – some are created by groups we’ve worked with during this project, while others are kindly lent to us by other community radio stations from across the world.
And, if you’ve missed one of the programmes, you can listen to some of the best ones on-line via our podcasts page.
Our Preston and Beyond project is kindly funded by the UK Department for International Development.
