Energised – Old & New Dance & Electronica With DJ Tim.

Tim Melia

Every fortnight on a thursday afternoons between 3.00pm till 4.00pm playing my choice of old & new & recent house, techno, progressive house & trance, electro and other styles of electronic music. Listen out for the odd mention about club & bar nights around Preston.

I’ve been DJing for about 12 years on & off and making my own tracks for about 15 years. I got into DJing because of my interest in dance/electronic music. I’ve been listening to dance music for nearly 22 years now and I’ve been influenced by various styles such as house, techno, trance, breaks, electro & hardcore. Music has always been an interest of mine since I was  2 years old, listening to Michael Jackson, U2 and other pop & rock acts from the early to mid 1980s. I started making music when I was 15 using pc programmes such as e-jay, techno maker & mixmaster pro. Today I use mainly fl studio to make tracks with, I make a wide range of styles which includes techno, electronica & house. I’am very much into electronic music from the likes of kraftwerk through to depeche mode & detroit techno producers such as derrik may & kevin saunderson through to early 70′s experimental krautrock electronica ( etc ).

In 2000, when I was 18 I started DJing at a weekends, playing mainly at 21st & 25th birthday party’s across the region playing a mixture of house, techno, hard house & trance & other styles of dance music. I used soundlab dlp 32 direct drive vinyl turntables along with a soundlab cd stack unit to mix cd’s with a couple of strobe lights and a color blast light to add to the show.
In 2005 I stopped DJing and continued to buy & make music. Between 2006 to 2008 I was listening to more underground experimental house, techno, electro & electronica, I wanted to make tracks that had elements of thoes styles which completly changed the way I produced tracks.

In early 2009 I got involved with a media group in Preston called CSV where I did a couple of film projects & I was teaching younger volunteers how to use DJ equipment with a few DJ workshops I organised. I also made a weekly online radio show for CSV which I did for 10 months from june 2009 to march 2010. Inbetween that time I found out about preston fm.

Been doing this show for 2 years since january 2010, I started with preston fm in september 2009 on one of there training courses, I did the 3 fresh on air shows, then I started my own show wich was a pre-recorded show to begin with. On the 2010 12 week of summer tour I got the chance to do my show live and started playing newer dance music. Last year in 2011 I brought in local DJ’s & producers and played there mixes & productions. Aswell as having my own radio show I do extra volunteering with preston fm. I’am part of preston fm’s music/playlist building team, fundraising & marketing team & I have recently been teaching an entry level training course in learning how to use DJ equipment for mixed adults. Severel preston fm volunteers/presenters completed the course & are awaiting There AQA certificates. I’ve also been involved in youth work with preston fm, organising DJ workshops for younger people who have an intrest in DJing and want to learn more on how to beatmatch, scratch & mix tracks together.
