Thank God it’s Friday 5-6pm

Paul Flanagan

Scurrilous shenanigans from the depths of Paul Flanagan’s mind and the dusty recesses of his MP3 player!

Facts, figures, odd ball links and the dreaded Cheesebar packed into an hour of frivolity to get your weekend started the right way. Your ears know it makes sense.

As a live show we bring you travel news near the top of the hour, national and local news headlines after the Cheesebar around half past the hour and foot tappers throughout.

There are frequent updates to local bands and whats happening at the Roland Music Academy I manage as well as a host of guest presenters from the student population at Preston College.

Coffee Break in the Office

For me, my show is great therapy for the week of work I’ve just done. I use it as a space between work and home so I don’t kick the next door neighbours cat or growl at my kids. I hope the show works as therapy for the listeners as well – we all work hard at what we do and our leisure time should be precious. As a result I don’t want to waste a minute of the show, or the listeners time. I want the listener to be entertained and relaxed. Having feedback from listeners is great I always have the e-mail and text open so [email protected] or a text starting Preston to 60300 will get through and get a mention!

Having my show and working with Prescap is really important to me, I’ve been on the Steering Group until very recently, I am a Volunteer Station Manager and I have been able to use my college connections well in the past. I love bringing people into the station and having them have a go on my show as a result I’ve had some superb experiences.

Playing live groups is nerve wracking for all but I think it is well worth it and I treasure an old recording of Chris Monaghan and a band called No Mans Land who were promoting a gig at 53 degrees that we put on. Equally having current college bands like She Wears Teeth and Why Not on has been great.

I had the chance to chat to Steve Davis (snookers Nugget) a while ago and interview him for both I-Tunes and Preston FM. Finding out that he’s as nerdy and geeky as me was enlightening, but chatting about his own community radio show in Essex was really cool.

I’d encourage anyone to take a step out of their comfort zones. People are amazing and can do really impressive things if they try! My kids are starting to want to come on the radio more and more. My eldest, Rachel is a budding star of the airwaves. Ciara and Patrick are not far behind in presenting skills and they are starting to show their old man up, so tune in and catch my show before they take over!

Looking forward to hearing how your week has been – drop me an e-mail or a text just before or during the show and we can hang out!
