The Schools Show

Gary Cunliffe

The School’s Show has been running once a month since April 2009 and is presented by Gary Cunliffe, a schoolteacher of (too) long standing!!

The purpose of the show is to highlight the good things going on in Preston’s schools, be they primary or secondary. Radio is beginning to make an impact on the school curriculum in the form of podcasts made for teaching and learning purposes by both teachers and pupils. These can be easily made on PC software such as Audacity and Podium, not forgetting either to mention Apple mac. They can be made available on school websites/learning platforms as MP3s but more excitingly, can also air on Preston FM! The show also likes to feature stories from The Lancashire Evening Post where education matters are so thoroughly dealt with by Sonja Astbury.

The first three shows have featured events, music and features based around the high school in Broughton and its feeder primaries who have very kindly let me loose as part of my day job to help people get creative with podcasting. The show also went to record some live music at The Guildhall from The Rotary High School’s Music Concert and the recent Preston Primary School’s Music Festival. The last of TWO radio shows in June was a special programme featuring that last mentioned event. However, from September 09 onwards The School’s Show wants to spread the net wider and find out what ALL Preston schools are up to and then share it with the Preston FM world.

You can contact me at [email protected] if you have news, events to publicise or celebrate and if you have some audio you would like to share with a wider audience. If you have lots going on at your school but don’t know how to podcast, then we can do something about that too to get you started.

Get in touch and get your school on air!
