Awards success for Preston FM
Preston FM has won the Bronze Sony Radio Academy Award for Best Community Programming. The award was in recognition of ‘Divided We Fall’ an exciting radio drama serial that looks at the contemporary issues of violent extremism and how young people can get sucked into it. The series was produced by Mannmade productions, working alongside Preston community organization Shahbash and volunteers at Preston FM, which aired the series in February 2010.
Richard Lace, Project Manager for yOur Preston FM said: “The Sony Radio Academy Awards are the Oscars of the radio industry and it feels amazing to have won. Working on a creative project to address some difficult issues was incredibly rewarding. The award win is testament to the quality of our programming, and the hard work and talent of our volunteers.”
The prestigious Sony Radio Academy Awards, the UK’s most respected and coveted radio honours, received over 1000 applications across all their 35 award categories. The awards presented to radio stations in each category reflect the strength and depth of UK radio, both in front of and behind the microphone, and include BBC, commercial, internet and community radio sectors.
